WEDDING DATE: JULY 20th, 2019
I am thrilled to share with you Tori and Jamie’s Charleston destination wedding. It was the epitome of classic perfection. The most important elements to the couple were good food and fantastic music so it would truly be a celebration with family and friends. I believe they accomplished that mission!
Tori and Jamie are from Cleveland, OH. Charleston is their favorite city. When I asked Tori why they chose The Cedar Room at The Cigar Factory as their wedding location, she said, “I found The Cedar Room online and fell in love before I ever saw it in person. We booked it before we arrived for a visit. We loved the architecture, the history, the unique pillars and walls in the space. When we walked in to see it in person, we both agreed that it was absolutely perfect for us.”
The Cedar Room at the Cigar Factory is located in downtown Charleston and has some of the most gorgeous rooftop views. The industrial feel and large windows make it a unique venue for weddings.
The couple first met in 2005. They remained friends who kept in touch over the years. “I got married and my husband passed away suddenly in a car accident 6 years ago. Jamie and I hung out as friends for some time before a spark developed and we decided we were meant to be,” says Tori.
Jamie had been holding onto a ring for a long time waiting for the right moment to pop the question. He decided the right moment was at Tori’s house after she woke up from a nap. She hadn’t been feeling well.
Jamie tapped her on the shoulder and said, “I need to ask you a question.” She turned over and he was holding the ring up as he asked her to marry him. She said, “Of course! But now?!” Tori says she definitely felt better after that!
Getting Ready & The First Look
Tori and Jamie got ready for their big day at the Indigo Hotel. There were a few tears as they exchanged letters from each other before doing their First Look. Tori also shared a First Look with her father.
The couple wanted to incorporate the marriage of their whole family, so Jamie gave each of their girls (Madi- Junior Bridesmaid, Gracie- Flower Girl) a ring when they arrived at the front to symbolize their part in the marriage as well. This was Jamie’s favorite part of the wedding.
As their photographer, I loved the sign that asked for an “unplugged” ceremony. This request kept guests in the moment, and cell phones out of the shots that I wanted to get.
After a touching ceremony, it was time to party! Tori and Jamie made sure their guests had fun at every turn. Guests could be entertained by playing “Bride-Libs” while dinner was being served.
Planning a destination wedding to Charleston involves careful coordination of many parts. Vendors, travel, the wedding party- they are all crucial pieces of the day that need direction.
Mike Winship, with charlestonweddingplanner.com, was Tori and Jamie’s wedding planner. He did a wonderful job of orchestrating the details with professionalism and excellence.
Tori and Jamie wanted to incorporate some southern classic dishes for their guests. Their menu included hors d’ oeuvres during the cocktail hour of fried green tomato with pimento cheese, crispy fried risotto, and short rib sliders. Southern fried chicken and Nashville hot chicken, complete with biscuits, waffles, and a bourbon maple syrup were the entrees. Guests enjoyed the carving station with beef tenderloin, roasted brussel sprouts, fingerling potatoes, and rolls. The Cedar Room knocked it out of the park with the menu.
Also, they served custom His and Her cocktails. His: Kentucky mule and Her: Moscow mule.
For dessert, they served brown butter crisped rice treats, fruit tartlets with lemon curd, and chocolate ganache brownies.
Their wedding cake was a tier of lemon cake with strawberry filling, and a tier of red velvet with cream cheese filling and Italian meringue buttercream… That makes my mouth water just typing it out haha!
We were able to get outside for some incredible rooftop shots and views of the Arthur Ravenel Bridge overlooking the water.
Tori’s favorite part was toward the end of their night, during the last song. She said she felt so full of love from their family and friends as all they gathered around them to join arms and sing together.
Finally, the guests went outside to get ready for the couple’s exit. Tori and Jamie stayed back to share a private dance, which was incredibly touching and unique.
Tori and Jamie,
It was such a delight to spend your day with you as your photographer. I wish you both many, many happy years together as a family.
